IT’S YOUR LIFE

The life events that young adults experience in the first 10 – 15 years after leaving school can have a major impact on how they live the rest of their lives. Events such as choosing to study, starting a career, travelling overseas, saving for a property, getting married or starting a family.

All of these life events require a major decision.

The pressure to do the “right thing” builds as does the conflict. Decisions and choices about the things we may actually want to do with our lives.

Young people are expected to finish school / university, get a good job and stick it out. Enjoyment doesn’t seem to be factored in. We are taught in order to be “successful” we must keep our heads down and work hard.

The constant pursuit of “success” forces us to live another life. The things that we truly enjoy and get the most satisfaction out of fall by the wayside. We start putting our lives on hold.

“When I have MORE TIME I’ll learn to speak a second language”.

“When I get a “promotion” or when I get a “pay rise” i’ll take a year long holiday”.

I truly believe people should spend their time following the path that fulfills and satisfies them, not spent doing what is important to others. Support and guidance from other people can be very helpful as long as your dreams are being fulfilled, not theirs.
